Lockdown is changing the type of parent I want to be.

Lockdown Parenting

Being a good parent isn’t easy all the times. Millions of us have been granted leave or are working from home. We are trying to tackle a combination of home schooling and playtime with work and Zoom calls.

Cleaning their mess the whole day is also a challenge that we are facing each day. To add cherry on the ice cream their endless Desire to Eat list is always on the table.

After fulfilling all their needs, as a token of appreciation we come to hear:

आपके के पास तो मेरे लिए टाइम ही नहीं है।

आप तो मेरे साथ खेलते ही नहीं हो।

में किसके साथ खेलू।

में क्या खेलू।

And so on ...

With partial relaxation to lockdown rules and discussions still underway about when schools will reopen, it’s unclear when any of this will end.

As a working parent we experience the fear of underperforming, means the threat of losing the job and therefore family security. This guilt is not exclusive to dads alone; there are many mums who are working from home.

Due to lockdown many of us are forced to re-examine the role we play in our child’s life. Research has found that there are so many parents who feel isolated, stressed out and suffering from imposter syndrome: a feeling like they were failing as a parent.

What I feel is, just relax! Just chill! This difficult situation will pass on with time. We may not be the best parent, but we are not bad parent as well. We all try to do the best possible thing for our kids, after all we are parents.

This is sure there is no escape from the family tree but you need not be always revolving around it. Take out some me time. Try relaxing. Try involving your family in sharing the work load.

Once this is sorted I am sure you will be the parent that you always wanted to be.
