Do children require a daily routine during the Lockdown?

Yes, you are correct. Kids require a daily routine apart from brushing teeth during Lockdown. Timetable helps to make the child scheduled and disciplined. Being in this lockdown situation for more than two months has made each of us lazy & inactive and  have no idea how long it will continue.

Daily routine

Even if the lockdown opens, social distancing remains the same. Forget about taking your child to parks, gardens, malls. It is  just in dreams.

There is worse to come. Now with the approach of summer vacations kids won’t be having their live classes as well.

That means
No Live Classes
No Summer Camps
No Holiday Trips
No Nani House
Nothing

It would be not lesser than a self quarantine with your child. In short, ‘NO TIME FOR YOURSELF’, ‘NO BREATHE IN PEACE’

Being a parent we know how difficult it is to keep the child occupied for a long period of time. They have a very small attention span and we have a very small patience level.
Being an adult we can make our mind understand ‘2020 is not a Summer Break enjoying year.’  But for kids the scenario is totally different. For them 2020: Summer breaks are just similar to any other year’s Summer Breaks. They want to relax, mingle with friends, join summer camps and enjoy the whole day.

Here comes the importance of having a daily routine. It will help to schedule both kids and ourselves. This is the time to spend quality time with them and share lifelong memorable moments.

Now what comes to mind is, ‘How to set up a daily routine?’, ‘What is to be included and what not?’ The ball is in our hand.

We have to plan the daily routine in such a way that we can include mental, intellectual, physical and interactive activities for the overall development of the child.

Following are the recommended skills that should be included in the daily routine for kids at home:

1. Movement Skills:

Movement Skills

Kids are energetic. It is very important for us to plan the time table in such a way that we can utilize their extra energy in a positive manner. Try to include some hopping, running, jumping activities, which is their all time favourite activity and also necessary for their overall development.

You can even plan games like ‘Simon says’, ‘Fire in the mountain’, ‘Four corners’, ‘Treasure Hunt’, etc

2. Learning Skills:

Learning Skills

Plan activities in such a way where their logical skills and memory skills are bought to use. If you ask your child to get their books or ask them to study they won’t seem to be much interested. But if the same studies are done through a play way method I am sure they would love it.

इतना तो  बच्चों के लिए कर ही सकते है।

3. Creative Skills:

Creative Skills

Each child is creative by nature. Some are good in drawing, colouring, painting or paper folding. There are a different set of kids who are good in imagination.

These are the best techniques to keep them involved in an activity for a long period of time and for their overall development. If you accompany them it would be cherry on the top.

You can refer to DIY videos which are available online for many easy craft ideas.

Try identifying your kids creative skills and motivate them to specialize further in it.

4. Reading Skills:

Reading not only means reading their school books but a variety of books. It could be a story book, fictional book, science & nature book, fantasy book, moral book or even a horror book.

Reading is always fun for kids. As per their taste and mood let them choose a book and indulge them in self reading. Bedtime reading is recommended as it helps you in empowering your imagination skills.

Reading is fun and enhances your vocabulary, language, thoughts and inspires you to fight against difficulties.

Try involving a number of languages while you are reading. You won’t realize when your child will turn multi-lingual.

5. Instructive Skills:
Instructive game

Children are their own instructor. They don’t like to listen. But we have to plan our daily schedule in such a way where they have to bid on the instructions. It could be by playing a board game or some sought of racing or even 1 minute games works wonders in this.

Involving your child in role play activities is also a good option to enhance their instructive skills.
6. Life Skills:

Life Skills

Pampering your child is good but too much of anything is bad. Right from the beginning try to introduce a few life skills in kids apt to their age.

It could be as silly as sharing things, keeping their plates to doing some household chores.

To develop their interest in cooking it could be introduced at a very early age. Baking a cake, making sandwiches, topping their own pizza, making some juice, rolling chapati, etc could be a few introductory activities for kids.

7. Camping Skills:

Camping Skills

Doing something different from the usual is always exciting for the little ones. Camping is one amongst them. You can prepare a tent out of your blankets or bed sheets and give them that camping feeling.

In this camp you can read stories or watch movies, documentaries, etc. Can chill with some munchies and juices or maggi.

Camping is not only fun but also teaches a lot. One of the most important things that children learn through camping is to overcome the fear of darkness.

To sum it up, preparing a daily routine might cause:

Increase in your work pressure
A lot of thinking & research
A lot of planning & preparations

But when you see the smile on their faces, their happiness, their excitement, their curiosity YOU FEEL IT’S WORTH IT.

Try it yourself. I am sure you will experience the same. Special request to all the  father’s, you must also get actively involved with your wives in making this summer break a memorable one for all.
